General Xray

Your preparation requirements

There is no specific preparation necessary for most x-rays; however you may be required to remove metal objects or get changed into a gown provided to you.  The receptionist taking your booking will advise you if anything is required.

Please notify your doctor and the staff at Sound Radiology if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant.

What to expect

Each examination requires different positioning of the body depending on what type of x-ray is being performed. The radiographer will position the part of the body you are having x-rayed to optimize your potential diagnosis. It is important that you keep very still once you have been positioned and you may be required to hold your breath for a few seconds. Images may be taken with you standing, sitting or lying on a bed. Multiple views are usually taken to gain all the information required. Your radiographer will then view your x-rays to make sure no further images are needed.

Most plain x-ray examinations require only 10–30 minutes of your time.

Following your x-ray, our radiologist will interpret your image and send a report to your doctor. If necessary, we can compare previous imaging for a more comprehensive evaluation and report

If you are having an xray, please see our checklist below.
